Storm Daniel hit north-eastern Libya on Sunday 10th September, strong winds and heavy rainfall caused devastating flash floods. These Tsunami like waves swept and destroyed everything in their path. Thousands have lost their lives. Homes, buildings, bridges, and infrastructure have been destroyed or severely damaged.
Our brothers and sisters that survived have lost everything. It is now upon us to help them.
In times of dire need, the bonds of humanity are tested, and our hearts are moved to make a difference. Today, we stand before a devastating crisis – the Libya Floods. This natural disaster has caused widespread devastation, displacing families, and leaving many in despair.
The Test of Compassion
Allah (SWT) has ordained charity as a means of purification for our wealth and a way to demonstrate our compassion for those afflicted by calamity. The Quran reminds us:
“And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], ‘We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.’” (Quran, 76:8-9)
