What is Zakat and Its Importance:

Empowering Lives through  Zakat,

Zakat one of the Five Pillars of Islam, holds great significance for Muslims worldwide. Derived from the Arabic word meaning “purification” and “growth,” Zakat represents the obligatory charitable giving that aims to purify one’s wealth and cultivate a spirit of compassion and generosity. It is a financial obligation for eligible Muslims, calculated as 2.5% of their annual accumulated wealth, excluding basic necessities.

This act of giving holds immense importance in Islam, as it not only helps those in need but also fosters a sense of social justice and solidarity within the community. Through the distribution of Zakat, we have the power to uplift the lives of the less fortunate, bring about positive change, and pave the way for a more equitable and compassionate society. Join us in exploring the essence of Zakat, its vital role in Islam, and how it enables us to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals in need.

Sunnah Charity believes in making your zakat benefit those who are entitled to zakat, in a meaningful and impactful way, so that we bring about a positive change in their lives.

Zakat is an obligation upon those who possess wealth and meet the specified criteria. It is distributed among the following categories of individuals:

The eight categories of recipients of Zakat, as mentioned in the Quran (Quran 9:60), are:

  1. The poor (Al-Fuqara’): Those who do not possess enough wealth to meet their basic needs.
  2. The needy (Al-Masakin): Those who are impoverished and lack resources for their daily sustenance.
  3. Zakat collectors (Al-Amilun ‘Alayha): Individuals appointed to collect and distribute Zakat.
  4. Those whose hearts are to be reconciled (Al-Mu’allafatu Qulubuhum): Individuals who are inclined towards Islam and can potentially be strengthened in faith by receiving Zakat.
  5. Freeing slaves (Fir-Riqab): Those in bondage or captivity who need assistance to regain their freedom.
  6. Debtors (Al-Gharimin): Individuals who are in debt and unable to repay their loans.
  7. In the cause of Allah (Fi Sabilillah): Individuals actively involved in promoting and supporting the cause of Islam and spreading its message.
  8. Travelers (Ibnus-Sabil): Individuals who are stranded or in need while traveling and lack the means to continue their journey or return home.

By giving your Zakat, you are fulfilling your obligation and helping those in need. Your contribution will help alleviate poverty, provide education, healthcare, and empower communities. Together, let us strive to make a positive impact, bring hope, and uplift the lives of those less fortunate.
